SCRIPTURE:
His eyes are on the ways of mortals; he sees their every step.
(Job 34:21)
MEDITATION:
How awesome (and possibly scary) is it to know that God is watching us?
Not only does He watch every step we take, but He also reads our hearts.
In fact He knows us better than we know ourselves.
When we have problems, we need to bring them to Him
since we simply do not have the capability of solving them ourselves.
After all, He is our Father.
I have heard some say, “I’m going to have fun no matter what it takes”.
God knows that when we say things like that,
we are also saying, “God better not get in my way!”
He sees that we have allowed our old nature to return to our lives.
He also knows that some have the appearance of being changed outwardly,
but have not been spiritually cleansed inwardly.
There is an old story that tells about a pig.
The farmer brought the pig into the house.
He gave him a bath, polished his hooves, put some perfume on him,
tied a ribbon around his neck, and put him in the living room.
The pig looked fine.
He made a nice and pleasant pet for a few minutes.
But as soon as the door was opened, the pig left the living room
and jumped into the first mud puddle he could find.
Why? Because he was still a pig at heart; his nature had not been changed.
He was changed outwardly, but not inwardly.
You can take a person and dress them up, put them in the front row in church,
and they can have the appearance of a righteous person, on the outside.
They may even fool their best friends for a while,
but put them in their office or in a club on Saturday night,
and you will see their true nature come out again.
Why do they act that way?
Because their nature has not been changed; they have not been born again.
ACTION:
Are you playing religious games while knowing in your heart
that you have not totally surrendered your life to the Lord?
The scary part is, you may have played the game so long
that you have convinced yourself you have been saved.
But God sees the real person and He knows what is missing in your life.
God can see through your justifications for doing what You want to do
instead of what He wants you to do.
You can read the Bible, watch sermons on TV, post religious comments
on social media, and everything else you can think of
to convince others that you are a child of the King.
But God sees through the smoke screen you have created.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, I am thankful that You watch me constantly. I know that
I can depend on You to alert me if I am fooling myself. It may be through
the words of a friend, the topic of a sermon, the emotional movement from
a song, or through devotionals such as this one. Whatever venue You choose,
help me to accept Your warnings, rather than trying to make excuses for my
actions and convincing myself that I am saved, in spite of Your knowledge
of the real me. If I am truly a child of Yours, I know there are times when
I disgrace my Christian walk and slip into a sinful mire. Cleanse and
strengthen me, I pray.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
Great word, Don! Let us be clean pigs – inside and out!
