DEVOTIONALS

WHAT ARE YOU REALLY HUNGRY FOR?

SCRIPTURE:
“I am the living bread that came down from Heaven. If anyone eats
of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will
give for the life of the world.”
(John 6:51)

MEDITATION:
Jesus had just fed 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish.
When the word “bread” is used in Scriptures,
it is often a symbol of spiritual life.
However, the people were thrilled and excited over the great miracle
that had just occurred and their thoughts were on bread for food.

As He often does, Jesus used this opportunity to tell them
about a “bread” that was much more important for them, and us.
He was referring to something quite different
and more critical than meeting any physical needs.
He told them that He was the bread of life.
“I am the bread of life” (John 6:48)

What a great time to tell them about eternal life.
Just as we have hunger for food, we also have an inborn hunger for God.
That means that we cannot be satisfied with anything less than God.
God knows of our hunger
and He has given us what we need to satisfy that hunger.
At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said,
“I am the bread that came down from heaven.” (John 6:41)
He alone can supply the bread
which satisfies the inner longing of our soul and the hunger of our heart.

Just as many today do not understand or accept the life-giving gift from God,
the Jews at that time did not understand or accept it either.
Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves,
“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” (John 6:52)
However those who do not understand or accept today have no excuse,
because we have also been given the Bible
which explains some of the mysteries of God.

ACTION:
Has your hunger been satisfied by the “bread of life”?
If it has, then praise God and thank Him for giving you His merciful gift.
If not, then you can have your inborn hunger for God filled.
Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice (His life) so your hunger could be filled.
Don’t miss out on receiving His gift.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for satisfying the yearnings deep down in my
heart. Your presence fulfills the needs of my soul. I praise You and thank
You for filling the hunger of my soul. I rejoice when I think about the
awesome gift You have offered me and the sacrifice Jesus made for me.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
