DEVOTIONALS

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO BE ACTIVE, AND WHAT CAUSES YOU TO BE LAZY?

SCRIPTURE:
We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who
through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
(Hebrews 6:12)

MEDITATION:
The definition for “lazy” is, “unwilling to work or use energy”.
Nobody wants to be identified as being “lazy”.
Why?
Because it connotes a person who just doesn’t care,
or only cares about themselves.

However, there might just be another reason for appearing lazy.
Guess what most of the sociologists say today
about their study of young people?
The greatest problem facing young people today is boredom.
When there was a riot in New Hampshire,
they asked the young people why they did it.
Most of them said, “Just for the heck of it”.

This is the kind of thing that can happen
whenever someone is bored, and their life has no purpose or meaning.
It is the same for Christians, isn’t it?
If they feel that they have no purpose or meaning in life,
then they can become bored.
Boredom and laziness results in a Christian
being vulnerable to the attacks from Satan.

That is why the scriptures tell us to imitate those with faith and patience.
The apostles certainly were not lazy, or bored.
They gave up everything to follow Jesus.
As a result, they were active in leading many to salvation.
We should never be lazy or lackadaisical
when it comes to worshiping and serving our Lord and Savior.
He was not lazy about going to the cross for us.

The disciples found meaning and purpose for their lives.
Can you imagine what a change it was for those who were fishermen?
Instead of waking up and doing the same thing every day,
they never knew what they might be doing,
but they knew it would be exciting.

ACTION:
What is your life like?
Are you bordering on boredom and routine living?
If so, then follow the advice from God’s Word
and imitate those with faith and patience.

If you aren’t doing anything for the Lord,
then why would you expect new excitement in your life?
However, when you mimic those with faith, you will contribute to the Lord’s
ministry on earth, and more importantly, you will be obeying His command.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

These are not suggestions, but commands from the Lord to be obeyed.
That means every Christian
should be doing something to point others to Christ.
If you are unsure what you need to do right now,
you can at least show others that your faith is genuine
by going to His house to worship on a regular basis.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the people You inspired to lead me to Your
salvation. Forgive me if I have not taken your commands seriously and have
become lazy when it comes to pointing others to You. Show me how to use
the Spiritual gift You have given me to and contribute to Your ministry in
obedience to Your commands. Remind me that when I gave my life to You, I
gave You control and committed to obeying You. I look forward to new joy
and excitement in my life as I imitate the disciples who had an active
faith.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
