SCRIPTURE:
“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.”
(Lamentations 3:40)
MEDITATION:
Have you ever been in an unfamiliar city and thought,
“I must be late for something because everyone is coming back”?
It isn’t long before you realize
you are going the wrong way on a one way street.
It is the same way with life, isn’t it?
We can suddenly discover we are going the wrong way.
We need to have checks and balances along the way
to ensure we are going the right way.
If we are going in the same direction as God,
we can be assured we are going the right way.
However, if we discover we are going in the opposite direction of Him,
then it is time for changing direction.
Our modern philosophy of self-reliance and self-sufficiency
has caused many to believe that we can do okay without God.
Some feel that religion is okay for some people,
but nothing can beat a man or woman who believes in himself.
How has that line of thinking worked out?
This self-confident generation has produced more alcoholics,
more dope addicts, more criminals, more wars, more broken homes,
more assaults, more embezzlements, more murders, and more suicides
than any other generation that ever lived.
It is time for all of us (and especially Christians)
to take a long, hard look at our failures, blunders, and costly mistakes.
We need to start putting less confidence in ourselves, and more trust
and faith in God.
We need to ‘return to the Lord’.
ACTION:
How does it look on the road you are traveling?
Are you trying to do too much by yourself?
Maybe you don’t feel as close to the Lord as when you were first saved.
Wouldn’t you like to have the Lord traveling with you?
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, when I examine myself, I am afraid that I see too much
of ‘self’ there. Too many times I have left You out of my journey. Forgive
me for being dependent on myself and not You. Help me to change directions
and return to You so I will know that I am going the right way.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
