SCRIPTURE:
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home
in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight.
We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at
home with the Lord.
(2 Corinthians 5:6-8)
MEDITATION:
All true believers in Jesus Christ have somewhat of a dilemma.
The dilemma revolves around the location of our home.
We do not have the luxury of residing in two homes at the same time.
We are either at home in the body and away from the Lord.
Or, we are at home with the Lord and away from the body.
Which home is better?
Most everyone would agree that being with the Lord is the better home.
It is a home that we cannot see, but our faith convinces us that it exists.
However, there are some who would prefer to stay at home in the body.
If the other home is the better
then why would some want to remain in the lesser one?
One deterrent, and probably the main one, is people feel more comfortable
with the known than they do the unknown; the seen rather than the unseen.
We can have faith in Jesus as the Son of God and commit our lives to Him,
but still struggle with crossing over from the known to the unknown.
Paul says that he would prefer
to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
Believers would probably agree with Paul’s statement,
but it’s the journey that they dread.
For one thing, part of the journey is the dying process,
which could involve a lot of pain, emotional upheaval,
and the sadness of leaving loved ones behind.
There is also the feeling of regret
that a person did not do more in their life to serve the Lord.
A little boy was riding alone on a train on a hot day
that made the travelers extremely uncomfortable.
As they passed through the desert, the scenery was not very interesting.
A lady sitting beside the boy asked him, “Are you tired of the long ride?”
The little boy smiled and said, “I’m a little tired, but I don’t mind it
much. You see, my father is going to meet me when I get to Los Angeles.”
Sometimes we get a little tired of the burdens of life,
but it is exhilarating to know that Jesus Christ
will meet us at the end of life’s journey.
The joy of being with Him forever
is greater than the ability of any writer to describe.
ACTION:
Are you looking forward to your heavenly home?
At the end of your life journey,
will you have regrets for not serving the Lord more?
Why not dedicate your life now to praise and worship give Him more,
and become an active member of His earthy ministry?
It doesn’t mean you have to become a full time pastor or missionary,
but it does mean that you need to discover the special spiritual gift
He has given you, and start using it.
It also means that you should dedicate yourself to being a living witness
by consistently going to God’s house to praise and worship Him
with other believers.
Sometimes that may mean giving up something you enjoy doing,
but there is great joy in meeting with other believers to sing praises,
and truthfully, shouldn't all Christians want to grow closer to the Lord,
while they can?
Don't expect the Lord to lower His standards
and enter your world of expectations,
but learn to raise your standards and enter His world of expectations.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of a heavenly home for me.
I know that I can become too comfortable in my bodily home and neglect
You and what You want me to do. Help me to recommit my life to You this
day, and to start serving You now so that I will have no regrets at the
end of my life’s journey. Help me to focus more on the unseen than I do
on the seen.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
