SCRIPTURE:
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the
Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.
(Romans 12:11-12)
MEDITATION:
Think about the times when you were on a team
and you had a big game on your schedule.
Remember the excitement you had.
It was hard to fall asleep the night before
because you couldn’t stop thinking about ‘the game’.
Or maybe you had a performance, recital, or presentation to make.
Why don’t we have that same enthusiasm about serving the Lord?
Every believer has special spiritual gifts
that are to be used for serving the Lord.
However, there are many believers whose gifts are collecting dust.
They are ready to tell others how they follow the Lord,
but they are not actively using their gifts to serve Him.
Each generation becomes more addicted to the sedatives of life,
to dull the pain of living.
People continue to search for some new goal or commitment to pursue.
Many have no inner stimulation that gives meaning to their existence.
Christ has the ability to save us from the misery of the curse of boredom.
He is ready to give us a fresh, new direction
and take away the dissatisfactions of our lives.
When we receive salvation from the Lord, it is time to become active.
We should have a new sense of commitment
and purpose that we have never know before.
When we are actively serving the Lord,
even the most mundane tasks can develop a new and exciting life of their own.
Too many Christians are staying in the same rut of boredom
and waiting for others to minister to their needs.
They shutter at the thought of attending to the needs of others.
But that’s exactly what they should be doing.
I have seen “professing Christians” who know of the needs of another person
or family member, but they are doing nothing to meet their needs.
In fact, they often get upset because someone is not meeting their needs instead.
That is not the path established by Jesus for us to follow,
and it is not what He expects of His followers.
ACTION:
Are you actively using the spiritual gifts the Lord has given you?
Do you know of the needs of someone,
but you are not taking an active step to help them?
Are you allowing your self-centeredness to prevent you from helping others;
do you expect them to attend to your needs and get upset if they don’t?
Don’t miss out on the excitement of serving the Lord – do something!
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me if I have not been actively using the Spiritual
gifts You have given me. Teach me to turn to You for escaping the boredoms
of life. Stir my inner soul so that I will have a passion for serving you and
ministering to the needs of others. Help me to leave my laziness and
self-centeredness behind and start thinking about others ahead of myself.
Fill my heart so much with Your Spirit that I will rejoice in whatever task
You set before me. I want to experience the same excitement as those who
are actively serving You and using the Spiritual gifts You have given them.
Please don’t take away the gifts because I am not using them. Instead, spur
me to action!”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
