SCRIPTURE:
“You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’
and rightly so, for that is what I am.”
(John 13:13)
MEDITATION:
If someone asked you to name the best teacher you have ever had,
how would you respond?
If someone asked you to name the person you look up to the most,
who's name would you give?
Hopefully your answer to both questions would be ‘the Lord’.
He is the one Who teaches us how to live
and the One we worship as our ‘Leader’.
He is dependable when teaching us how to live.
The Lord (through the Holy Spirit indwelling in all believers)
will never lead us in anything that is contrary to the Word of God.
Some people say, “The Lord led me to do this.”
or “The Lord told me thus and so”.
To be honest, I am a little suspicious unless
what they felt they heard from the Lord is in keeping with His Word.
Too many times they claim the Lord spoke to them,
but what He said is contrary to His Word.
That will never happen when the Lord speaks to His people.
God will not allow any heavenly direction that is contrary to His Word.
If we find ourselves in a blind alley and not knowing which way to turn, if we
are willing to do His Will (no matter what that means), He will reveal Himself.
The prophet Samuel once said “Obedience is better than sacrifice”.
But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and
sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than
sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)
Samuel knew that “connecting” with God starts with obedience.
Yet there are many who choose to be disobedient in certain areas
and still claim that God has spoken to them.
Why? Because they want to do what they want to do
even though it is contrary to His Word, and they attempt to convince others
that they have received God’s stamp of approval.
I have heard of someone saying that God ‘advised’ them
and their soul mate to live together outside the bond of marriage.
That is fornication and God would never give that His approval!
He conceals His Will only from those who, before they consent to do His Will,
claim to know what He is going to say, and interpret His Will to fit their desires.
We are called to be obedient first, then listen and respond
to what He actually says to us (which will be in alignment with His Word).
We should always remember that “Where God guides, He provides”.
And when we are obedient and follow Him,
“Where He leads, He supplies all our needs!”
ACTION:
What percentage of the time would you say you obey God?
We aren’t just talking about NOT doing the things He disapproves of,
but also refusing to do what He has asked you do to.
Are you willing to let Him teach you?
Is He Lord of your life?
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Teacher and Lord. Help
me to listen to Your instructions and teach me to follow where You
lead, even if I consider it an inconvenience for me and initially feel
that You are leading me where I do not want to go. Teach me to be
more obedient to You not only in the area of DON’Ts, but also in the
area of Do's. Forgive me for any times I have claimed that I received
instructions from You when I was just trying to justify what I wanted
to do. Increase my worship of You so I will truly be more connected
with You. I want to be so acutely attuned to Your Word that every
decision I make will be in agreement with Your Will.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
