DEVOTIONALS

HAVE YOU READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

SCRIPTURE:
“Heaven and earth will pass away,
but My words will never pass away.”
(Matthew 24:35)

MEDITATION:
Have you ever read a book that you thoroughly enjoyed,
and then six or eight months later, you tried to recall what you had read?
You might remember the overall theme of the book,
but remembering the details aren’t as easy.
What do you do - go back and reread the entire book?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could easily focus on
certain portions of the book while remembering the overall theme?

Isn’t it great that God’s Word (Bible) is structured so we can do that?
We know the overall theme of the Bible,
but sometimes we can forget some of the important details
we need to know in order to obey, worship, and serve the Lord.
This is why we need to be reading His Word daily,
to remind ourselves of His instructions for us.

Think about this:
Time is running out; the seconds are ticking away toward midnight.
The human race is about to take the fatal plunge.
Which way shall we turn?
Is there any authority left?
Is there a path we can follow?
Can we find an instruction book that will give us the key to our dilemmas?
Is there any source of authority where we can turn?

Have we just been placed here by some unknown creator or force without any
clue as to where we came from, why we are here, and where we are going?
The answer is “No.
We do have an instruction book.
We do have an authoritative source material.
It is found in the ancient and historic Book we call the Bible.

This Book has come down to us through the ages.
It has passed through many hands,
appeared in many forms, and survived attacks of every kind.
Barbaric vandalism and civilized scholars
have not destroyed it, or caused it to become unbelievable.
The laughter of skepticism has not caused its annihilation.
Through the many dark ages of man,
its glorious promises have survived unchanged.

ACTION:
Do you have sessions of reading the Bible daily?
If you are unsaved, how will you ever know
what Jesus did for you and your pathway to salvation?
If you are a Christian, how will you know what God expects of you personally?
God’s Word has survived many centuries
so that every person has an opportunity to benefit from reading it.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for providing Your Word and protecting
it through the ages. Forgive me if I have taken for granted the privilege
of being able to read Your Words to mankind, and to me personally. I
pray that You will create an enthusiasm in me to diligently read Your
Words on a daily basis. Teach me how to meditate on the scriptures in
order to hear from You. Show me the importance of gathering with other
believers to discuss what we read in the Bible. Eliminate my self-sufficiency
so that I will realize the importance of regularly attending worship services
in order to listen to what You want to say to me, through the ones You have
chosen to guide me in understanding Your Words.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
