DEVOTIONALS

WHEN YOU WAKE UP EACH DAY, WHICH GOD DO YOU CHOOSE TO WORSHIP?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of the remnant of his inheritance?  You do not stay angry forever
but delight to show mercy.
(Micah 7:18)

MEDITATION:
Throughout history we have heard of many man-made gods.
Some of the gods focus on material possessions.
Some of the gods drive people to be successful.
Some of the gods encourage their followers to kill all who are not followers.
Some of the gods are based on a list of rules and regulations.
Some of the gods were gods of fertility.

There are so many gods that when Paul arrived in Rome,
he discovered a god with the inscription TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.
Apparently they had gods for every person, every circumstance and every desire,
but they didn’t want to miss any, so they created an unknown god
to encompass everyone who could not find a god of their choice.

With so many gods, if a person doesn’t like the requirements
of following one god, they can just change and start worshipping another one.
However, as Paul told the people in Athens, there is only one true God.
For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship,
I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you
are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going
to proclaim to you. “The God who made the world and everything in it is
the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human
hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything.
Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From
one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth;
and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of
their lands. (Acts 17:23-26)

The true God that we worship is not some cosmic being “out there somewhere”.
He is a God Who communicates to those who are willing to hear Him,
receive Him into their lives, and obey Him.
He reveals Himself to those who love Him and humbly obey Him.

It began in the Garden of Eden when He spoke to Adam and Eve.
God does something
that no other god can duplicate – He fellowships with His people.
He also pardons sin and forgives the transgressions
of His followers through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.

He loves His people and He doesn’t hold grudges, but enjoys showing mercy.
The God we serve is not man-made, but is a God with human-like emotions.
He loves, He is compassionate, He shows mercy and grace, He forgives,
He encourages, He provides an advocate, He gives promises, He is eternal,
and He desires the best for His followers.
He is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent,
and yet He has built a bridge between Himself and His people.

ACTION:
Are you following a man-made god or have you
committed your life to the One and Only true God of the universe?
Aren’t you glad
that you can worship such a wonderful, loving, caring and forgiving God?

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, there is no other God but You. All other gods are
man-made, so they are not gods at all. They are created as a symbol for
the various ideals of men. You are the God I worship and praise. You
are the only God Who can forgive my sins and welcome me into heaven
to be with You. You are the only God Who can bless me and teach me
how to live a life of joy and peace. Thank You for Your Word that helps
me to know more about You, and what You expect of me. I love You God
and I want others to know of my feelings for You, and why I worship and
praise only You. Help me to show others of my dedication and
commitment to You by the way I live.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
