HAVE YOU BEEN HEALED FROM THE SICKNESS YOU WERE BORN WITH?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die
to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.
(1 Peter 2:24)

MEDITATION:
Have you ever given thought to the fact that we were born sick?
You might say,
“No, I was born a healthy child”.
But were you? All of us were born with a sickness called ‘sin’.
Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful
from the time my mother conceived me.
    (Psalm 51:5)

This is not a sickness that a doctor or psychiatrist can heal.
It is not a sickness that can be healed by taking medicine. It
is not a sickness that can be healed by eating healthy foods
and exercising. The sickness we have is one that requires the
Great Healer.

Healing requires the help of someone greater than man the cures
for diseases developed by mankind. No vaccine has been created
that will alleviate this sickness. There is only One who can heal us
of this sickness, and it is Jesus Christ!

The question is,
“Will He heal us or will He only heal some of us?”
The answer is,
“Yes, He will heal us; He will heal all of us”
But if we expect healing then we have a responsibility (more on it later).

Jesus worked all His life. But the greatest work that Jesus did was not
in the carpenter’s shop, or even at the marriage feast of Cana when He
turned the water into wine. The greatest work that Jesus did was not
when He caused the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the dumb to speak,
nor even when He caused the dead to rise to life again.

The greatest work that Jesus did was not when He taught as One with
authority, or when He scathingly denounced the Pharisees for living
a life of hypocrisy. The greatest work Jesus did was not in the ethical,
Godly idea He introduced to mankind, which was to ‘love each other’.

No, the greatest work of Jesus was achieved in the dark hours on Calvary.
Christ’s greatest work was when He went to the cross as a sacrifice for the
sins of mankind. When He took the punishment that we deserved, He opened
the door of opportunity for us to be healed from the sickness of sin we were
born with. It was His wounds that provided us with the cure for sin.

There is no greater love than what Jesus showed for every human being
when He ‘bore our sins’ on the cross. The love of Jesus and His Father
has given us the opportunity to be healed from the terminal sickness we
were born with so we can start living a life of righteousness that leads to
eternal life. What a Savior!

ACTION:
Questions we should ask ourselves:
    – Am I still suffering from the terminal sickness I was born with?
    – If so, do I want to be healed? Am I willing to become a follower
      of Jesus?

The choice is in our hands. We can go to the great Healer, Jesus,
and ask Him to heal us from our ‘sin sickness’. When we do that,
we are also committing ourselves to becoming followers of Jesus,
which includes replacing our life of sin with a new one which has
a desire to pursue Godly righteousness.

One thing to consider is, we may have times of discouragement as
our sickness is being healed. Why? Because we begin to discover
new areas of sin in our lives that we haven’t realized in the past.
We may get the idea that our sinfulness is increasing when in fact
it may be a new awareness of sins that we have had all along.

If we are to be healed of our ‘sin sickness’, then we need to have
a new sensitivity to ‘all’ sin that contributes to our sickness. We
may have been desensitized to some sins by Satan as he continues
to try to deceive and control our lives.

However, our Great Healer is aware of the Evil One’s schemes and
for us to be fully healed, we need to know about the sins that have
been ‘hiding out’ in our lives. Part of the healing process is identifying
all causes of the sickness.

If we feel we are becoming more sinful, then we need to pray and ask the
Lord to give us clarity as to whether we are sinning more, or becoming
more aware of existing sins. Once the Lord has shown us which of these
is the case, we need to seek His help in taking the appropriate action for
resolving (eliminating) the sins that inhibit our healing.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ! Thank
You, Jesus for what You did for mankind, including me! I cannot
imagine the pain and agony You suffered so that I could be healed.
Heal me from any, and all sicknesses of sin in my life so I can live
righteously and look forward to being with You for eternity. Remind
me often of the six hours You suffered for me, so I will gladly sacrifice
any of my selfish desires to allow for more time of worshipping You.
Teach me to live a life similar to the one You lived when You walked
the earth in human form. Show me how to change my priorities so I
can become more like You with my thoughts, words, actions, and attitudes.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
