BIBLE PASSAGE:
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through Him who loved us.
(Romans 8:37)
MEDITATION:
Do you ever have feelings that you are a loser? Do you feel that
other people seem to win at everything, but you seldom enjoy
being victorious. Others may be more talented or athletic than
you, and it has caused you to be intimidated by them.
It can be difficult to be grateful for the gifts God has given us
if we keep comparing ourselves to others. We are creations of
God and He made each of us uniquely different.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully
made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
(Psalm 139:14)
The psalmist recognized how important he is in God’s eyes and
as a result, he praised God for creating him the way He did. We
should learn a lesson from the psalmist and stop trying to compare
ourselves with others to see if we ‘fit in’ with the worldly standards.
When we focus on being grateful for the way God made us, we have
taken a giant stride in gaining confidence and being satisfied with
who we are. When we are pleased with how God made us, we develop
an appreciation for the talents and spiritual gifts He has given us.
When others find fault with us, we can find comfort in knowing that
God is pleased with how He has made us.
As believers, we know that we have an adversary (Satan) who wants
to make losers of us. He unleashes every weapon he has in his arsenal
and the things he does to intimidate us can cause us to feel overwhelmed
at times.
Just when we think we are about to overcome his efforts to discourage
us and cause us to sin, we get knocked down again. It is during those
times that we need to be aware of God’s presence in our lives. When
we depend on Him, we can celebrate victories over the Evil One.
The scriptures tell us that we are ‘more than conquerors’ through Him.
What exactly does that mean? Not only does He help us achieve victory
over our adversary, but we also become better people because of the
blessings given to us by God Himself. God wants us to be thankful for
being His creation so we can enjoy the blessings He has for those who
love Him and are followers of Jesus.
ACTION:
We should ask ourselves:
– Am I feeling defeated?
– Does it seem Satan continues to knock me down?
– Am I frustrated that I am in a vicious circle of resisting
temptation and then giving in to committing sin?
– Do I feel that I am having small victories, but losing the battle?
– Am I trying to defeat Satan in my own strength?
If our answers to these questions are a resounding, “Yes!”, then we must
be doing something wrong, wouldn’t you agree? If we don’t make some
changes, then we will continue living in this rut of disappointment and
frustration. Rather than struggling on our own and experiencing the
agony of defeat, we need to call on the Lord so we can have victory and
be able to fully enjoy His blessings for us!
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promises of victory. Forgive me
for not calling on You to help me become ‘more than a conqueror’. Fill
me with Your love, so I can fight against the evil presence in the world
today. Thank You for creating me as You did, and for the skills, talents
and spiritual gifts You have given me. Teach me how to use everything
You have given me to bring honor and praise to You. Thank You for
always being there for me. Help me to be there for You by pointing others
to Your Son, Jesus with the things I say and do. Create in me a thirst to
fully enjoy the blessings You have for those who love You and are willing
to accept how they have been called to fulfill Your purpose for them.”
