DEVOTIONALS

TIMING IS EVERYTHING – BE PATIENT AND WAIT ON THE LORD

BIBLE PASSAGE:
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
(Psalm 37:7)

MEDITATION:
Do you ever feel like you are getting ahead of yourself? Do
you have instances when it seems your timing is off. Good
timing can be everything, can’t it? When your timing is
wrong, you can say things you wish you hadn’t said, and
you can make decisions too early because you didn’t spend
enough time thinking them through.

When we see others succeeding, sometimes we rush to decisions
too quickly. As believers, it can bother us a lot when we see the
ungodly succeeding. It can have a major impact on our emotions
as we try to understand why they are successful, and we are not.
However, we need to remember that true success is measured by
God, and not by any standards established by mankind.

One of the greater problems we have as Christians is – we like
to be in control. It is a natural desire for both Christians and
non-Christians. We just can’t fathom allowing someone else
to have control of our lives.

If we want something done right, we will seldom delegate it to
someone else. This causes problems for us, because we end up
overloading ourselves. We need to learn to trust others when
possible, and there are times when we need to learn to trust
ourselves in being able to serve the Lord.

When God calls us to perform a task, He will certainly equip
us with everything we need. Not only will He provide us with
the expertise and time required to accomplish what He wants
us to do, but He will also provide us with the ‘right timing’ to
be successful. Most people (including Christians) struggle with
developing and exercising patience. However, if we expect to
serve God on His timetable, then we need to wait on Him.

When the scripture tells us to ‘be still’, it is saying that we should
not get ahead of God but wait until He gives us a ‘green light’ to
proceed. Our omniscient (all knowing) God can see all the factors
involved, how they interact with and affect each other; He knows
when we should proceed if we are going to succeed in following His
plan for us.

ACTION:
Questions to consider:
    – Does God have something He wants (and expects) you to do?
If He has saved you, you can be sure that He does!
    – Are you anxious and trying to ‘get a jump’ on His mission for you?
    – Have you learned to ‘be still’ and ‘wait on Him’?

If we do things on our timetable instead of waiting on Him,
we will most likely encounter some complications.

As an example, let’s say that you are a pastor and God has given
you a dynamic message that you are excited to share with others.
Your intentions are good, however if you fail to wait on the Lord
to inspire you as to when you should deliver the message, there
could be a high probability that the one He wants to speak to,
will not be there to hear it (due to sickness or other pressing
issues).

God does a lot ‘behind the scenes’ (that we can’t see), in order to
orchestrate His plans and ensure they are executed successfully.
We can’t see what He sees, and we are not as smart as He is, so
we should never try to get ahead of Him on anything, even if it
is something good.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for involving me in some
of Your plans. Forgive me if I have failed to wait on You
and have tried to do things my own way. Teach me how
to understand Your will for me, and to trust that You
will show me when I should act on Your behalf.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
