DEVOTIONALS

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR STABILITY IN YOUR LIFE?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but My words shall not pass away.”
(Matthew 24:35)

MEDITATION:
In an unstable world, we can all use some stability, can’t we?
It can be difficult for anyone to find peace without stability
in their lives. Even though we may not have respect for some
people who are in positions of authority, we still need distinct
boundaries to prevent us from having uneasy feelings that we
have no restrictions or guidelines for our path of life.

When we don’t have well defined limitations, we can feel unsure
of how far we should go in any direction. For instance, if there
were no speed limits, imagine the dangers created if people were
driving 70-80 miles an hour in residential areas (and school zones).

When you think about the length of time planet earth and its
resources have existed, it is natural to consider the possibility
of the resources being depleted and the earth crumbling as a
result. It is similar to the feelings we have about a new house.
When we move into a brand-new house, we have to be realistic
and know that as time passes, it will begin to deteriorate.

If we know the world we live in is unstable physically, socially,
and environmentally, then where can we find our stability? We
find it in something that will last forever and will not deteriorate
over time. That ‘something’ is God’s Word – the Bible.

Scriptures assure us that His Word gives us the stability we need
because it will never deteriorate. It is the same today as it was
hundreds of years ago and it will be the same until Jesus returns.
So, if we are lacking stability in our lives, or if we feel there are
no guidelines for living, then we need to spend time in God’s Word.

His Book has been passed down to us through the ages. It has passed
through many hands, appeared in many languages, and survived all
attacks of many types. The promises contained within have survived
unchanged. Nothing has been able to stamp it out, dilute its content
or cause it to disappear forever. It is God’s Word, and as we are told
in scriptures, it will never pass away.

ACTION:
From the day you were born, time started running out on you.
You, and everyone else, have a destiny with death and eternity.
What we do during the time we are given will determine where
we will spend eternity.

The Bible is like an instruction manual for those who want to
spend eternity with God. Consequently, we need to spend time
reading and understanding the words within it. It provides many
answers for living, and it can show us how to find peace and joy.

I need to say something here about how the Lord is using me to
embellish His Word and share it with others. Over fifty years ago
He revealed to me that He had given me the spiritual gift of prophecy.

The spiritual gift of prophecy is not predicting the future or reading
crystal balls. It is being a person God has called to me a messenger
of His Word. What that means is, God will provide what He wants
us to know about His Word, so the messages we share are ultimately
from Him and He deserves all the glory and praise.

Without any debate, they ARE God’s messages because He provides the
content either directly (by putting the messages and scriptures in our minds),
or indirectly (by giving us an ability to read the Bible and explain or clarify
what the scriptures mean or imply). In both cases, the messages are from
our Heavenly Father and Creator.

By using the word ‘imply’, it means that sometimes the details of His
instructions to mankind are intended to change our entire being by
renewing our mind; it is much more than providing a list of rules for
us to follow and check off on our personal task lists.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God’s will
is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
    (Romans 12:2)

I’m not going to share all the details of how He has used me, but if you
want to read more, go to my Blog and enter “Testimony of Thankfulness”
in the Search field. Everything in the Blog is free and there is no effort
to collect or share any information from those who view it.

As a brief summary, He started using me to lead a couples bible study
and discussion class at my church (which I am still doing today). It was
through leading this class that He taught me how to depend on Him for
all I needed to answer His call (discussion themes, content, scriptures, etc.).

Then in 2013, He added composing and distributing His devotionals (which
I am also still doing today). It’s been amazing, but not surprising, to see how
He has grown the number of people who are viewing “His” devotionals. As
the numbers have increased, it assures me that He is using what He provides
to speak to people all around the globe (and the good news for me is, I get the
opportunity to read them first).

If you haven’t discovered the spiritual gift you were given when you
received salvation from the Lord, I encourage you to make every
effort to find the special gift He has designed specifically for you.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus
to do good works, which God prepared in advance for
    us to do.
    (Ephesians 2:10)

When you discover your gift and start using it, you will enjoy a new
and exciting purpose for living! Be prepared for the possibility (and
maybe probability) that using your spiritual gift may require you to
do something which is beyond your comfort zone. However, God will
not call you to serve without equipping you to do it. In addition, He
will always be with you when you commit to His purpose designed
specifically for you.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for providing me with Your
Word. Forgive me if I have taken for granted the privilege
I have of being able to read the Bible. Help me to dedicate
more time to reading it and teach me how to understand
the things I read. Thank You for those who are dedicated
to providing an understanding of Your Word and sharing
it with me and others. Impress on me the importance of
encouraging and listening to those You have ‘gifted’ with
an ability to share the messages provided by You.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
