THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:11

Some people call Him “Lord”; others call Him “Jesus”; still others call Him “Christ”.
Whenever someone calls Him “Lord Jesus Christ”,
it sounds like they are using His full name, doesn’t it?

What do these names represent?
We see in Luke 2:11 that Jesus is described as “Christ the Lord”.
Jesus is His name; Christ and Lord are His titles.
All three used together provide us with a complete description of Jesus.

Lord:
This points to His authority.
When we call Him “Lord”, we are acknowledging His right and His power to rule.
He is Lord over all.

Jesus:
This is His name.
It is the Greek form of the name Joshua, which means “Yahweh saves”.
He is the One who brings the salvation promised by God.

Christ:
In the Old Testament, ‘Christ’ is equivalent to the title ‘Messiah’,
which means “Anointed One.”
Jesus is the promised Messiah.

In summary:
The Lord Jesus Christ is the One who is all powerful,
the One who brings salvation, and the Christ who was promised by God.
When we say those three words “Lord Jesus Christ”,
we are saying more than a name, we are stating Who Jesus is.

Tell Jesus that you want to grow in your understanding of Him
and in your obedience to Him as your Lord, Savior and Christ.
Using all three words is a good way to describe Him when sharing with a lost person.

By the way, when witnessing to the lost, be sure they can tell you
are a believer by the how you live your life and by what you say.
If you are not proving your faith by “faithfully” worshiping with other believers
on a regular basis, then others will question the sincerity of your faith.
If your language includes profanity (especially if it includes God’s name),
then others will question your own salvation and be uninterested in what you have to say.

As believers, we live in a fish bowl where non-believers observe us.
If we attempt to witness to others before we remove the sin algae from our own lives,
then they will get a cloudy view of us and our faith.
This is why prayer and community worship are very important for believers.
Yielding to the control of the Holy Spirit is not a “one and done” event;
it is a continual renewing of our faith.
Are there areas of your life that you are still selfishly clinging on to?

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
