“Blessed are the meek: for they will inherit the earth.”
Matthew 5:5
What does it mean to be meek?
Meekness is not weakness.
The word “meek” means yielded.
It literally has the idea of strength under control.
When an animal, especially a horse, is domesticated,
it is trained so a rider can sit upon its back or so it can pull a plow.
The term for this process is the animal has been “meeked”.
It has been broken.
Now it yields to the rider or the yoke.
The animal now exhibits strength under control.
That is what meekness is.
It takes a strong person to be meek.
We need the strength provided by the Holy Spirit.
A meek person is not controlled by his or her emotions.
He or she has yielded to, and is controlled by the Holy Spirit.
When we are living out of the will of the Lord,
we have not been “meeked” by Him.
We are making our own rules to fit what we want to do
(even though we know it is wrong and God does not approve).
Read Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
and 21:5.
“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
What does Jesus say about Himself?
What should you do to emulate Him?
Are you living by YOUR will, or by HIS will?
Great word today, Don!
Challenged by the final question, “Are you living by YOUR will, or by HIS will?”
