“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand,
that He may lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6-7
When God brought us into this universe, He did not make us to abandon us.
When God finished His first creation, He stepped back and said, “It is good.”
But then sin came into the world, and we broke fellowship with our Creator.
Because of His great love and mercy toward us,
God sent His only Son to bring us back to Himself.
When we are saved, we become a new creation, and God says, “It is good.”
You are washed in His blood, clean in His sight, and forever in His heart.
This should excite you, but you are not to be haughty or prideful or arrogant.
On the contrary, you should be humble;
realizing that you are blessed because of Him and not because of yourself.
It is okay to take pride in your work and wanting to be the best that you can be,
but it is not okay to be boastful of who you are, what you have done,
the things you own, your abilities, etc.
Do you feel down?
Do you feel anxious about anything?
The scriptures are clear – if you want God to lift you up, then you MUST humble yourself.
When you humble yourself, He promises to ‘lift you up’
but on His timetable (‘in due time’) which may be different than yours.
Why would He wait?
Probably for two reasons:
1. To teach you patience.
2. Because in His wisdom, He knows when the timing is right.
One last question – why does He choose to lift you up?
The scriptures say it is because ‘He cares for you’.
Isn’t that a comforting thought?
The God of the universe cares for you individually.
And, He blesses you when you ‘humble yourself’.
Take a look in the mirror and be honest with yourself.
Are you prideful, arrogant, egotistical, selfish, or self-serving, etc.?
If any of these are a part of your life,
then start practicing humility so that with His mighty hand He may lift you up.
